The 2026 Fosdick Lecture On Preaching: Rev. Alan Storey Across Minnesota, we are bearing witness to a campaign of state-sanctioned terror and violence against our immigrant neighbors. As federal officers violate civil liberties - even killing two citizen observers, Renee Good and Alex Pretti - people of faith and conscience are resisting this assault on our community, our city, and our neighborhood. Followers of Jesus long for a word of good news to meet us in this moment, to call us back to justice, and to remind us of God's unfolding, unconditional promise of manna and mercy for all.
The ninth annual Fosdick Lecture on Preaching will be given by Rev. Alan Storey. Rooted in the South African context, Alan is a Gospel storyteller and facilitator of personal and political change.

Schedule of the morning:
11:30 AM - Light beverages and snacks served as guests arrive

About our speaker:
Rev. Storey's commitment to the Jesus way of justice and peace-making was tested early in his life when he faced conscription into the apartheid regime’s military. He chose to be a conscientious objector. He was arrested and faced trial with a six-year prison sentence as the likely outcome. Alan’s trial was abandoned midway, and he became the last conscientious objector to be brought to trial in apartheid South Africa.
Over the years he has been involved in numerous civil society organizations addressing: gun violence, racism, state-capture corruption, xenophobia, homophobia, transphobia, spacial apartheid inequality, sex worker discrimination, and the campaign for a universal basic income. He is the author of the 2025 Andrew Murray Desmond Tutu Prize winning book, "The bell, banners & blasphemy."
Alan’s lifelong work remains the experimental practice of the Sermon on the Mount, and his ministry is dedicated to “healing the divisions of the past and establishing a society based on democratic values, social justice and fundamental human rights.”

About the Fosdick Lecture on Preaching:
Harry Emerson Fosdick (1878-1969), the founding minister of Riverside Church in New York City, was regarded by Martin Luther King, Jr., as ‘‘the greatest preacher of this century.” One of liberal Protestantism’s most influential voices, Fosdick was a proponent of ecumenical Christianity, pacifism, and civil rights, whose radio sermons and writings reached millions.
Since 2016, Augsburg Campus Ministry has hosted the Fosdick Lecture on Preaching. Gifted preachers and storytellers have shared their insights on preaching and topics important to them.
