The 2024 Hugh Cudlipp Memorial Lecture
Location: The Royal Over-Seas League
Join us for The 2024 Hugh Cudlipp Memorial Lecture at the prestigious Royal Over-Seas League.
This year’s Hugh Cudlipp lecture is to be given by Geordie Greig, Editor-in-chief of The Independent.
Greig, who has had five national editorships, will be the first editor of a digital publication to give the prestigious lecture.
The annual Cudlipp Lecture was created in memory of the late Lord Cudlipp, the former editorial director of the Daily Mirror, a past President of the London Press Club and one of the pioneers of 20th century popular tabloid journalism.
Hosted by the London Press Club and sponsored by the Daily Mirror, the lecture gives a platform for a high-profile media professional to address key developments and issues in today’s news business.
Lecturers have included: Editor-in-chief of the Kyiv Independent Olga Rudenko in 2023, Roula Khalaf, Robert Peston, George Osborne, James Harding, Jim Naughtie, Kevin Maguire, Emily Bell, David Walsh, Sir Harold Evans, Jon Snow, Lionel Barber, Alan Rusbridger, Rebekah Wade, Paul Dacre, Andrew Marr, Lord Grade, Felicity Green, Piers Morgan, Geoffrey Goodman, Derek Jameson, Bob Edwards and Peter Carter Ruck.
The lecture will take place at 6.45pm on Wednesday, 26 June at the Royal Over-Seas League club in St James’s, SW1A 1LR. It will be followed by a wine and sandwiches reception. Tickets for the Cudlipp Lecture, including a post-lecture drinks reception, are £10 (including VAT). Entry is free for London Press Club members. A small number of free tickets are available for accredited journalism students – email [email protected] to apply.
Geordie Greig is Editor-in-Chief of The Independent: it is his fifth national editorship. He has been Editor of Tatler, The Evening Standard, The Mail on Sunday and The Daily Mail. Geordie is Chairman of The Friends of the National Libraries, a charity which safeguards Britain's literary heritage. He is the author of The Kingmaker, the story of the friendship between George VI and his grandfather, and Breakfast with Lucian a biography about the artist Lucian Freud.
