About this Event
In this workshop, we’re starting with a direct re-enactment of the 1973 oil crisis. It’s a narrative deep-dive designed to help you compare that historic shock to the 2026 Iran conflict—showing you how the "preferred grooves" of history are playing out right now. We will explore how the physical closure of the Strait of Hormuz has triggered an 80% drop in tanker traffic.
The global economy has entered a period of physical disruption following the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, the world’s most critical energy choke point, carrying roughly 20% of global petroleum supply, about one‑third of global seaborne crude oil trade, and approximately 20% of global liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports.
Energy flows into Asia’s manufacturing heart, including ASEAN, China, India, Japan, and South Korea, have been severely impacted, triggering cascading shocks across electronics, automotive, industrial components, and consumer goods supply chains.
As oil prices surge and global growth contracts, organizations are operating in a stagflationary environment defined by rising input costs, margin compression, supplier decommitments, and demand volatility.
