Put on your glad rags and join us at the National Academy of Sciences for a lively evening of cocktails, conversation, and discovery!
Step back in time to the roaring '20s as we celebrate the centennial anniversary of the Academy’s historic building – known locally as the Temple of Science – and through the doors to our Science Speakeasy. Sip on a Foucoult’s Pendulum (the bespoke offering at the bar), jive to some live jazz, and prepare to have your curiosity piqued by the science of sound. We are excited to have Cindy Moss, the bee’s knees of bats, with us to give you some fascinating insights on how bats use sound to navigate the world, hunt, and communicate in very specialized ways. Bonus opportunity: You can ask Cindy any of the nagging, nail-biting questions you've been storing up since middle school about echolocation! (We know you have them. We all do.)

What should I expect?
5:30PM: Doors open
6PM - 7PM: Cocktails and nibbles (included in ticket price)
7:30PM: An insider’s peek at the Academy’s historic Great Hall where the sounds of science have echoed for 100 years.
7:45PM: We hear from Cindy Moss who heads the BatLab at Johns Hopkins. Come with questions, leave with answers.
8:00PM: As they’d have said in 1924, “Let’s blouse!” which, according to the Flapper’s Dictionary means you can go home (or carry on elsewhere for more Friday night shenanigans).
