This talk addresses new manuscript evidence concerning Thailand’s famous cat poems, which greatly improves our understanding about the history of Thai cats from pre-modern times. There are also new studies on important Thai cat populations that likewise give a fuller picture of ancient Thai cat-breeding techniques. A section of the talk covers current Thai cat populations and how to acquire a cat -- whether from a shelter, a breeder or somewhere in between. The show and tell should be of interest to cat lovers and devotees of traditional Thai art and culture, as it showcases Thailand’s huge contribution to the world of cats. There will be a Q&A to field questions on cat acquisition and care, and some fun quizzes for prizes.
