Women Veterans Recognition Day is not a separate Veterans Day, but a day commemorating June 12th 1948, when women were allowed to permanently serve in the regular military. Prior to that, service was limited, and many were not recognized for their service, despite their service, sacrifice, and even loss of life. They could serve in limited roles during wartime, and were sent home after each conflict, with the exception of women nurses. Many of these (s)heroes were not recognized for decades, such as the members of the Women's Army Corps who were assigned to the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion (the Six Triple Eight) and received the Congressional Gold Medal in 2022.
