🍷ABOUT INWOOD ESTATES
Founded by Dan and Rose Mary Gatlin, Inwood Estates Vineyards holds a singular place in Texas wine history. Long before “Texas wine” became a movement, Dan Gatlin was planting vineyards, studying grape genetics, and obsessively researching how to produce world-class wines in a warm climate.
With roots in a Dallas beverage family dating back to the 1930s, Dan grew up immersed in fine wine. By his early twenties, he was buying and tasting in France and California, learning firsthand from the founders of Napa Valley, the great châteaux of Bordeaux, and legendary Burgundy houses. That rare exposure shaped his uncompromising vision for quality.
Rather than rushing wines to market, Inwood spent decades refining vineyard practices and winemaking science before releasing its first vintage. The result was Texas’ most acclaimed and highest-priced wine at the time, earning placement in over 100 fine dining restaurants within six months, many of which had never poured a Texas wine.
Inwood also pioneered Tempranillo in Texas, helping spark what would become one of the state’s defining varietals. Today, the winery produces highly allocated wines under five labels, with an average bottle price of $100–$120 and a reputation for precision farming, low yields, and uncompromising standards.
Now led day-to-day by Dan alongside co-founder Rose Mary Gatlin and head winemaker Spencer Gatlin, Inwood Estates remains a family-driven operation dedicated to producing Texas wines at the highest global level.
