"Spring is here and with it," says St. Michael’s Episcopal Church parishioner, Pam Gallagher, “our ‘Terrific Tag Sale, a beloved event for many local people and visitors alike.”An annual fundraiser for 53 years -- except in 2020 -- the event that Gallagher is coordinating this year and running with numerous volunteers is Saturday, May 2, 8:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. at St. Michael’s, 16 Bradley Ave., Brattleboro.
All proceeds from the 2026 sale will benefit Brattleboro's Loaves and Fishes food ministry.
With a mission “to feed anyone who is hungry and food insecure,” Loaves and Fishes, located in Brattleboro’s Centre Congregational Church, is a community meals program committed to providing food twice a week for anyone who needs it, free of charge, including those in hospice care, senior housing, shelters, and transitional housing. The donation-driven service prepares and distributes several hundred hot meals a week and 60 to 75 bags of groceries, thanks to the work of over 20 area volunteers.
The St. Michael’s Tag Sale offers, says Gallagher, “a vast array of good quality items: summer and winter clothing and shoes for young and old; dishes, pots and pans and other housewares; lamps, rugs, furniture, and beautiful linens for bed and bath; plus great books, jewelry, and sporting goods. Displays of various goods will be both downstairs in the church building and outdoors under big tents. We'll be selling some items (furniture, sporting goods, jewelry) at set prices, and everything else will be available on a ‘take what you need, give what you can’ basis with requests for financial donations" to support this year's beneficiary.
Additionally, Gallagher adds, there will be “delicious” homemade soups, chili, and baked goods for sale at reasonable prices at Craig's Café downstairs and grilled hotdogs outside.
“Come May 2 and find just what you need at the St. Michael’s Tag Sale,” says Gallagher. “Enjoy the festive atmosphere; eat some good food; and feel grateful that you're also helping others in need by supporting the amazing work of Loaves and Fishes.”
St. Michael’s Episcopal Church is at 16 Bradley Ave., the corner of Putney Rd., in Brattleboro. It is handicapped accessible.
