We are inviting all our friends to the third meeting of the Temperance Philosophy Club. We are expecting another full house! We are excited to announce that we will be hosting the third meeting of the Temperance Philosophy Club on Saturday 14t h December at 2pm . This will be hosted by Paolo Turrini ([email protected]). Everyone welcome! The idea, which is inspired by the concept of Socrates Cafe ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socrates_Cafe ), is to have monthly meetings (second Saturday of the month) where everyone interested in philosophical questions can take part in discussions and debate a wide range of issues.
Attendance is free and does not require any philosophy background. The format is very simple and is designed to promote inclusion and participation.
Everyone can, if they wish, propose a topic for discussion, in form of a question. For example: Should we be worried about AI? Is a parent responsible for the crimes of their children? Are coffee shops the new pubs?
All the proposed topics get voted. The topic that gets the most votes gets discussed. Participants take part in the discussion by first signaling their intention to speak to the host. This determines the order of interventions, which are expected to be on topic, concise and of course respectful.
The person whose topic was chosen will be asked, before the discussion starts, to briefly present their topic and, once the debate ends, to summarise the main points that came out of it.
The duration of the meeting will be roughly one and a half hours.
We are looking forward to seeing you there!
