About this Event
"Telling Our Story: Charlotte's Black History Documentary" is a compelling film that highlights Charlotte's rich Black history, culture, and excellence. It sheds light on the untold stories of Black history in the Charlotte area while celebrating the achievements of Black excellence, both past and present.
Girl Scouts Maya and Morgan premiered their Silver Award documentary on November 5, 2022, at the Harvey B. Gantt Center in downtown Charlotte. The premiere included the unveiling of a mural at the center, themed around the evolution of Black history, with Maya and Morgan prominently featured in its design.
Since the premiere, Maya and Morgan have become sought-after speakers at prestigious events, including the 2023 Color of Education Summit, the Western Carolina University Equity Summit, and the #DefendBlackHistory Summit. At the latter, they received the esteemed Defending Black History Award, presented by Color of Change and the National Education Association.
Through their documentary, Maya and Morgan hope to inspire viewers to take action and become the change they wish to see in the world.
