Telemann's Big Paris AdventureA group of eminent French musicians invited Georg Philip Telemann to Paris, and he finally made the journey in 1737. He had such a great time that he stayed 8 months, much longer than he intended. Inspired by court musicians Michel Blavet (flute), Jean-Pierre Guignon (violin) and Jean-Baptiste Forqueray (gamba), Telemann composed six virtuosic and highly rhythmic quartets, later called the Paris Quartets or Nouveaux Quatuors. Along with guest baroque flautist Tamara Rotz, the CCP will perform two from the 1738 set: the great E minor (no. 6) and the passionate A minor (no. 6). Also on the program: works by Blavet, Forqueray and de la Guerre.
Join Paul Primus, Barbara Hamilton (baroque violins), Beth Vanderborgh (gamba) and Peter Schimpf (theorbo) for an exquisite program on November 8 and 10. www.coloradochamberplayers.org
