New York State Senator Michelle Hinchey and Assemblymember Emily Gallagher — the sponsors of the Corporate Catastrophe Act (S.9519/ A.10210) — will host a free public screening of the acclaimed documentary TEENAGE WASTELAND on Monday, May 11, at the New York State Museum. Director Jesse Moss and film subject Fred Isseks will join the audience for a live Q&A after the screening.
About the Film:
Middletown, New York. 1991. A renegade English teacher sends his students out on a film assignment, and they accidentally uncover a web of toxic dumping, political corruption, organized crime, and environmental injustice hiding in plain sight. Teenage Wasteland is a coming-of-age story built from candid footage that is by turns humorous, nostalgic, and galvanizing. Thirty years later, those students and their teacher reckon with a life-defining event and a remarkable story of civic courage. The film is a testament to speaking truth to power and a reminder that the fight for environmental justice in America and across New York is far from over.
