About the Session(s)

- This is a 4 session class that occurs every Tuesday from April 14, 21, 28, May 5th

- The art medium used in the class is traditional.

-Teen Drawing: Back to the Basics is a great class for beginners, as well as students who want to slow down and strengthen their foundation. Over four weeks, students will focus on the core skills that help every artist grow, including shape, line, shading, proportion, and learning how to really observe what they see. By the end of this class, each student will have a completed still life drawing that they can be proud of!

Ellie Valentin brings a thoughtful and welcoming teaching style that helps students feel comfortable trying new things, making mistakes, and growing their skills over time. This class is a great fit for young artists who want to improve their drawing, better understand the basics, and enjoy the creative process.

In this class, students will:

  • Learn foundational drawing concepts like line, shape, value, proportion, and form
  • Practice drawing from observation
  • Explore shading and light to create more dimensional drawings
  • Strengthen their sketching habits and artistic confidence
  • Work toward a finished still life drawing by the end of the session

Week 1) Basic shapes and proper sketching form. Showing the kids how to sketch lightly and that everything can be broken into basic shapes. Follow along demo and real practice time.

Start the still life with a light touch.

Week 2) Shading Techniques. Show options for sketching that aren't outlines, practice

seeing positive and negative space.

Week 3) Light and Shadow. Show how light creates form on an object and how to

turn those basic 2D shapes into 3D forms.

Week 4) Drawing real life objects. Put all these concepts into practice and work on

finishing the still life.
