The story of Benji and BaluYou may remember that in June of last year, after a complex international rescue mission, the Wildheart Animal Sanctuary welcomed two European brown bears, called Benji and Balu,
from Azerbaijan.
The brothers had spent most of their lives in a tiny cage on the
side of a restaurant, surviving off scraps, which left them
malnourished and with significant damage to their teeth from
bar-biting.
More than £250,000 was raised to bring Benji and Balu to their
forever home at the Sanctuary where they are thriving and delighting visitors with their playful antics.
As the cost of providing the care these special bears need is ongoing, we want to do all we can to support our local animal sanctuary. On 19th June we are going to be holding a teddy bears' picnic in school to raise some funds to help with their care.
More details about how you can get involved will follow soon. We're looking forward to joining together as a school community, with our own teddy bears, to have some fun and support such a worthy cause.
