About this Event

Transitioning from an individual contributor role to a leadership position, especially in the fast-paced tech industry, is hugely challenging. Most new leaders don't receive any training at all in the first 10 years of their new responsibilities.

This workshop is designed to the tackle communication, feedback and conflict skills that ever leader needs to succeed.

Key Takeaways

Debugging difficult conversations: Delaying or avoiding difficult conversations may lead to unresolved issues which can compound over time, similar to ignoring a mechanical issue with a vehicle until it becomes irreparable.

Giving actionable feedback: Feedback is crucial for leaders aiming to influence behaviours within their teams and wider organisations. This change-management tool helps clarify the desired and discouraged behaviours, preventing frustration due to misunderstandings.

Receiving feedback gracefully: Leaders should also focus on receiving feedback effectively, understanding the intent behind it, and improving its effectiveness.

Healthy vs unhealthy conflict: Conflict in the workplace and other social settings is a reality. Knowing the difference between healthy and unhealthy conflict is essential to ensure productivity and positive relationships.

Building a culture of healthy conflict: In a thriving professional environment, conflict is not a hindrance but a catalyst for growth and innovation. Let's discuss how to build a culture where disagreements among peers are not only tolerated but encouraged.

Transitioning from an unhealthy to a healthy conflict: When we find ourselves in an unhealthy conflict, it’s important to learn how to move towards a healthy conflict. The PAUSE model is a useful tool to help guide us through the process of moving from an unhealthy to a healthy conflict.

Access to the Tech Leaders Launchpad: Participants also get 6mo access to the online learning platform - Tech Leaders Launchpad - with an additional 40 hours of self-paced learning content.

Who Should Attend

This workshop is ideally tailored for:

Tech/Team Leads: Learn to build trust and manage your team and yourself. Foster more collaborations across different teams and disciplines, and confidently communicate tech to non-tech audiences.

Principal & Staff Engineers: Learn to build strong relationships and trust to lead. Influence and set the technical direction for your teams, and nurture team talent through mentoring and knowledge sharing.

Engineering Managers: Learn to delegate work and empower others, influence stakeholders whilst balancing strategic business and engineering objectives, and effectively guide your team towards a shared vision and goal.

Facilitator

The Workshop is led by Andrew Murphy, a former software developer who has held various leadership positions in consultancies and SaaS companies like Linktree.

With the right support, Andrew believes that everyone can become the leader they want to be, which is why he now focuses on teaching those skills via his company Tech Leaders Launchpad.

By sharing his experiences, tools, and techniques, Andrew equips emerging and new tech leaders with the necessary skills for success in the modern workplace.
