Teapots with Intention: A Hands-On Workshop with Kenyon Hansen
Dates: February 28th & March 1st
Time: 9:30am-4:30pm
Location: All Hands Pottery164 S Military Highway, Norfolk, VA 23505
Join us for a two-day, immersive teapot workshop with nationally recognized potter Kenyon Hansen.
This hands-on intensive workshop blends live demonstrations on the wheel with guided wheel time, allowing participants to watch Kenyon’s thoughtful approach to form, proportion, and functional design—and then immediately apply those techniques on their own wheels. Handbuilders are also welcome!
What You’ll Learn
• Throwing intentional, well-proportioned teapot bodies
• Designing and fitting lids (galleries, flanges, transitions)
• Throwing and altering spouts for a smooth, controlled pour
• Pulling and shaping handles for balance and comfort
• Assembly order, clean attachments, trimming, and refinement
• Functional considerations: ergonomics, weight, pouring performance
Participants will move between demo → hands-on practice → refinement with Kenyon’s guidance throughout.
What You’ll Leave With
Participants will complete one or more fully assembled greenware teapots. Firing is not included, allowing the workshop to focus entirely on process, construction, and form. Drying and safe-transport instructions will be provided.
Skill Level:
Designed for intermediate to advanced wheel-throwers who can confidently center and throw basic forms. Demonstrations will focus on the wheel but Kenyon can also work with handbuilders.
