Most of you know my daughter, Trinity. She was born with a genetic disease called cystic fibrosis (CF), a progressive, life-long condition that primarily affects the lungs and digestive system. CF causes thick, sticky mucus to build up in the body, leading to frequent lung infections and difficulty absorbing nutrients.Trinity also has cystic fibrosis–related diabetes (CFRD), a common complication of CF that develops when the pancreas is damaged over time, affecting the body’s ability to regulate blood sugar. Managing CFRD requires constant monitoring, insulin therapy, and adds another layer of daily medical care.
Cystic fibrosis is often referred to as an “invisible illness” because many people with CF may look healthy on the outside, while facing significant medical challenges every day. This is why awareness is so important—so people can better understand the unseen struggles and strength of those living with CF.
One way we help raise awareness and support the CF community is through the Great Strides Walk, a nationwide event organized by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Great Strides brings families, friends, and supporters together to walk in honor of those living with CF, while raising critical funds for research, care, and the continued search for a cure.
