Resilience isn’t something we’re born with—it’s something we build, moment by moment, as our bodies and minds learn to adapt, heal, and reorganize in the face of challenges we never asked for but survived anyway. Too often, we mistake resilience for grit or willpower, when it’s actually a dynamic interplay between our biology, our environment, and the meaning we make of our experiences. In this talk, I explore the neuroscience of how we rise after hardship, the protective factors that help us not just recover but truly evolve, and the stories that shape our capacity to grow. At its core, this is a conversation about reclaiming our ability to bend without breaking—and rebuilding ourselves with greater wisdom, compassion, and connection.Kelley J. Minor, LGSW, is a clinical therapist, educator, and founder of Curiosity Collaborative LLC, specializing in trauma-informed care, attachment healing, and the neuroscience of human connection.
