The world’s most-consumed beverage is so much more than that solitary Twinings teabag in your morning cuppa! Join Ping for a short talk delving into the mysterious origins of tea in ancient China, while touching upon the extraordinary properties of tea that have enabled the existence of the multitude of varieties we enjoy today. Ping will also serve an artisanal Chinese tea in the gongfu style of appreciation, and an Asian homemade sweet to go with it.Whether you are a tea enthusiast or an initiate, do come along and hopefully you'll learn something new!
This is an event intended primarily for students and faculty at UAlg, and the venue is close to campus (this NOT being held at or hosted by the university: I just couldn't select the correct address from the dropdown!) -- but everyone is welcome!

About Ping: Ping is the founder of Fragrant Pine Tea, an initiative to share tea history and culture with a focus on Japan, China and Taiwan. The name is inspired by the pinheiro-manso (stone pine) so ubiquitous in the Algarve, but also fragrance of pinewood used to smoke one of the rarest and exclusive teas: Zhengshan Xiaozhong (Lapsang Souchong). After majoring in Asian languages at university, Ping was fortunate to live in and around the heartlands of tea in the three aforementioned countries (but mostly Japan) over a decade, where among other things, she ran an award-winning publisher on Asian culture, and assisted a tea start-up. She is relocating back to Japan to continue formal study of Urasenke School of cha no yu (the Way of Tea) this autumn. Ping is available for workshops, courses and tea ceremonies.
