Over five magical winter evenings, the heart of Whakatū Nelson comes alive with light, creativity and connection.Centred around Christ Church Cathedral and its surrounding gardens, Te Ramaroa 2026 invites you to explore a vibrant collection of illuminated artworks, interactive installations, live experiences and community performances. Wander through the gardens, discover hidden moments of wonder, and gather with friends and whānau beneath the lights.
This year's festival features the awe-inspiring Darklight, a rare full-scale transformation of the Cathedral interior that reimagines one of Nelson's most iconic spaces through light, sound and atmosphere. Along the garden paths, Simon Holden's 'ARC' invites visitors to create their own symphony of light and sound, turning a simple walk into a playful, collaborative experience.
The festival hub comes alive each evening with performances on the historic 1903 Community Stage, delicious food and drink, and the return of Nelson's favourite Silent Disco beside Burger Culture. Just a short stroll away, NMIT once again provides a home for innovative installations and emerging creative talent.
Free, accessible and uniquely Nelson, Te Ramaroa celebrates the artists, schools, community groups and creative organisations that make our region shine.
