About this Event
This wānanga is designed especially for Rangitāne uri who are at a beginner–intermediate level, along with their whānau, ensuring our learning reflects our stories, our reo, our waiata, and the way we do things as Rangitāne o Wairau.
We also warmly welcome members of our wider hapori who wish to learn alongside us and support our kaupapa in a safe, relaxed, and encouraging environment.
Throughout the week, you can expect a mix of fun, engaging, and hands-on learning, including:
- Learning and practising our Rangitāne waiata
- Kēmu and interactive activities to strengthen your reo in a relaxed, enjoyable way
- Creative reo-based tasks, designed to help you grow your reo
We’ll be using the Rāpata Wiri Five‑Step Teaching Method, which supports confident learning through repetition, practice, and gentle correction:
- Me whakaatu – Show the sentence.
- Me whakahua tika – Say the sentence correctly.
- Me āta whakamārama – Carefully explain the structure.
- Me whakaharatau – Practise the sentence pattern using different examples (at least three times).
- Me whakamāori tika – Translate the pattern correctly into Māori, with supportive correction as needed.
This wānanga is all about ako, whakawhanaungatanga, and having fun together, a safe, encouraging space where everyone can grow their reo, connect with each other, and celebrate being part of Rangitāne.
