Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC)
LINC provides FREE English classes for immigrants, permanent residents, and newcomers in Toronto.
We provide language training classes and settlement services to assist adult newcomers to attain the English language proficiency needed to fully participate and succeed in their new Canadian home community and economy. In addition, the LINC program provides support services, including transportation assistance (based on eligibility) and free Care for Newcomer Children.
Eligibility:
- Permanent Residents of Canada
- Protected Persons (as defined under Section 95 of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act)
- Convention Refugees
- Some Temporary Residents
- 19 years of age or older
- Must complete a language assessment before registration
Essential Skills Upgrading
The Essential Skills Upgrading (ESU) program provides free adult classes in Toronto to help learners improve their English reading and writing, mathematics, and computer skills. Our free adult classes are available in many locations across Toronto in Etobicoke, Bloor Street, Rexdale, North York and Scarborough.
Eligibility:
- Adults (19 years of age or older)
- Must have valid SIN
- Canadian Citizens, Permanent Residents, Convention Refugees, Refugee Claimants, and other eligible residents
- Individuals seeking to improve English reading, writing, math, or computer skills
- Learners preparing for employment, training, apprenticeship, or further education
