About this Event
GRAMMY-nominated New Orleans supergroup The Rumble offers more than a concert, it is an immersion into a vibrant and distinctive facet of New Orleans culture. Featuring Second Chief Joseph Boudreaux Jr. of the Golden Eagles alongside Aurélien Barnes on trumpet, José Maize Jr. on trombone, TJ Norris on bass, Ari Teitel on guitar, Andriu Yanovski on keyboards, and Trenton O’Neal on drums, the band blends classic New Orleans funk in the spirit of The Meters and The Neville Brothers with powerful brass and the striking visual tradition of Black Masking carnival culture. Their album Stories from the Battlefield earned a 2025 GRAMMY nomination for Best Regional Roots Album, and their live performances are filled with rich colour, driving rhythms, shared vocals, and traditional Mardi Gras Native American-style call-and-response chants.
Following them is the James Vickers Band, an emerging blues-rock group from Nanaimo formed in July 2023. Led by 15-year-old vocalist, guitarist, and songwriter James Vickers, a rising star of Gitxaala, Heiltsuk, Haida Nations, and UK heritage, the band also features Carson Maertz on guitar, Sara Varro on drums, and Rick Becker on bass. After releasing their debut self-titled EP in 2024, with a full album on the way, the group has quickly gained attention. Vickers made his public stage debut at just eleven years old and has since performed at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis in January 2024, while also opening for acclaimed artists including Jim Byrnes, Crystal Shawanda, and Wide Mouth Mason.
