About this Event
Join us for an evening of Arabic music, poetry, art and food while raising funds for women and children affected by war.
The Opening of Homeland: An Exhibition of Poetry Art presents the newest poetry art collection by Nargess Jalali Delia, a Vancouve-based Iranian-Italian visual artist and art therapist. In this collection the artist has drawn inspiration from her life-long love for Arabic poetry and the message of love, healing, connection, and hope she received from the poetry and lives of these celebrated poets who resisted war and discrimination and cultivated love, freedom, and equality even during the most traumatic and desperate circumstances.
The exhibition displays five pieces featuring poems by iconic poets who were a voice for love, equality, exile, freedom and women’s rights; including Nizar Qabbani, Mahmoud Darwish, Qhadah Al Samman, Ghassan Kanafani, Gibran Khalil Gibran, and May Ziyadah.
All funds from the opening reception and paintings will go towards supporting communities who are suffering the consequences of war, invasion, discrimination and violence in Palestine and Lebanon.
