In March of 1888 the "Great White Hurricane", the 10th worst snowstorm recorded in American history, affected the Eastern Seaboard of the United States from New York down to the Chesapeake and Delaware Bays. Leaving up to 40-50 inches of snow in some locations.
In Lewes, multiple Atlantic vessels sought refuge behind the walls of the Breakwater. With 90 miles an-hour wind and ice flows little safety was found.
During this performance meet the brave men of the USLSS and their families who provided rescue and aid to victims of this unprecedented natural disaster.
This interactive historical experience will occur within sight of the 1884 Boat House of the Lewes US Life Saving Station, which witnessed the Great White Hurricane of 1888 and provided service during the Great Storm.
This program will include light refreshments and will be approximately 1.5 hours. You must be at least 21 years old to attend.
