About this Event

"The perfect summer beach read! Rival bookshops, second chance romance, friend drama, it was the perfect book to curl up and escape to the Cape."
--Pamela Kelley, bestselling author of Bookshop by the Bay

A bestselling author finds love and second chances in the stacks of a quaint beach town bookshop
Author Shelby Archer found inspiration for her first novel while living on the picturesque shores of Provincetown on Cape Cod. When she comes to the town to celebrate her new bestseller, she is expecting a warm homecoming. But instead she is confronted with the cold shoulders of friends and neighbors who feel exposed and betrayed.
Heartbroken, Shelby tries to move on and focus on her next novel. But then an unexpected call comes: her dear friend who owns the beloved Land's End bookshop needs help for the summer. Shelby reluctantly returns to the Cape to manage the store.
Back at the beach, Shelby sets her focus on the tiny seaside shop, getting lost in the shelves of steamy romance novels and dusty classics and trying to right the wrongs of her past. With every page turned and every customer served, Shelby comes closer to gaining back the trust of those she hurt. But as her manuscript deadline nears, she is again forced to choose between her own success and a second chance at love and belonging.

Jamie Brenner is the bestselling author of seven novels including The Forever Summer and Blush. She spends her winters writing in Bucks County, Pennsylvania and her summers visiting the beach towns that inspire her books.

"The spectacular Jamie Brenner brings us the world of books in a rich, satisfying and surprising summer read. A Novel Summer unfolds on the shores of picturesque Provincetown and the sandy beaches of the Cape where Shelby Archer discovers her success and fame as a novelist came at a price. When Shelby renews ties with old friends and takes a job at the Land's End Bookshop, she is determined to heal old wounds and find new dreams in the worlds that unfold on the shelves. A glorious read." --Adriana Trigiani, bestselling author of The Good Left Undone

" A Novel Summer deftly navigates the fine line between fiction and real life, friendship and success, childhood and adulthood, and how books connect us. Another summer winner from Jamie Brenner!" --Viola Shipman, USA Today bestselling author of Famous in a Small Town and The Wishing Bridge

This is summer's BIG book that everyone will be raving about! I'm recommending it to everyone I know!" --Kristy Woodson Harvey, New York Times bestselling author of The Summer of Songbirds

"Brenner's latest escape to the Cape, told through the eyes of three best friends--an author, an editor, and a bookseller--is not to be missed!" --Jane L. Rosen, author of On Fire Island

"Packed with best friends, betrayals, books, and the beach , Jamie Brenner's A Novel Summer is the perfect summer novel." --Nancy Thayer, bestselling author of All the Days of Summer

Swanna in Love

It's the summer of 1982 and fourteen-year-old Swanna Swain is the only one left at camp. The place is a ghost town by the time her mother Val finally shows up six hours late--stoned and radiant--in a Ford pickup driven by Borislav, her new young Russian lover. Assuming she is headed home to her air-conditioned Upper West Side apartment, Swanna and her lovable younger brother Madding are instead dragged to Vermont--to an artist colony where kids are not welcome and they are forced to sleep in the back of the truck, while Val is cozy inside the house with the Russian.

Then Swanna meets Dennis, a handsome married father of two, at a bowling alley, and, knowing a thing or two about seduction from Judy Blume, her best friend at camp, and her own parents' many affairs--she sets out to convince Dennis to help her. But love seldom obeys rules, and even a tough, smart, city girl like Swanna might not be able to handle falling in love.

Best-selling novelist Jennifer Belle returns with a kind of inverse Lolita that explores adolescent desire from the girl's point of view. In turns hilarious and wildly shocking, Swanna in Love will keep your feathers ruffled and the pages gliding by.

Swanna in Love is an addictive read, a book as genuinely funny as it is transgressive. Jennifer Belle captures the bravado and vulnerability of adolescence in a voice that jumps off the first page and ventures into some dangerous territory.--Tom Perrotta, author of Tracy Flick Can't Win
Review Quotes:
Oh, how I loved the whip-smart Swanna Swain. I loved the way she effortlessly lied to people. I love how much she wanted things, good and bad. With Swanna in Love, Jennifer Belle has given us the other side of Nabokov's Lolita--the misunderstood teenage temptress who desperately wants an ice cream sandwich, a comfortable bed to sleep in. Love. Sometimes, it hurts what happens to her. I inhaled this book.--Marcy Dermansky, author of Hurricane Girl

Jennifer Belle is the best-selling author of four novels, Going Down (which was named best debut novel by Entertainment Weekly and optioned for the screen twenty-seven times), High Maintenance, Little Stalker, The Seven Year Bitch, and Animal Stackers, a picture book for children (illustrated by David McPhail). Her stories and essays have appeared in the New York Times Magazine, the Wall Street Journal, the Independent (London), Harper's Bazaar, Ms., BlackBook, the New York Observer, Post Road, and many anthologies.
