The public is invited to the 11th Annual Taste of Heirloom Tomatoes on Sunday, Sept. 13, from 2–4 p.m. on the east lawn of Plum Grove, 1030 Carroll St., Iowa City. Visitors will have the opportunity to sample a wide variety of heirloom tomatoes, vote for their favorite variety during this popular community event celebrating Iowa’s rich gardening and food heritage, and learn the correct techniques to save tomato seeds to plant next year.
Participants are encouraged to consider a $4 donation to support Johnson County Master Gardener programming.
The annual tasting event was established in 2013 as a tribute to heritage tomatoes and Iowa’s long agricultural and culinary traditions. The event was paused in 2020 and 2021 during the global COVID-19 pandemic and now returns as a favorite late-summer gathering for gardeners and food enthusiasts alike.
