Leighton and Sambourne Houses - Two Victorian Wonders - Ornate Studio-Homes of Two Victorian Artists
Step into a painter’s world in the house and studio that Frederick Leighton (1830-1896) built, lived and worked in. Gorgeously decorated and hung with many of his paintings, his home embodies the Victorian idea of how a great artist should live.
Ten minutes’ walk away is Sambourne House, family home of the renowned illustrator and Punch political cartoonist, Linley Sambourne (1844 – 1910). A fine example of a “House Beautiful”, it feels like the family has just stepped out and will be back any moment.
