Border folk rockers Tarras make an exciting return to the area on Saturday 17th May. MacArts will host an evening of some of the bands finest songs spanning 25 years. Their debut album Rising took the folk scene by storm and helped pave the way for countless bands who were experimenting in contemporary folk compositions. Tarras most recent album “Warn the Waters” contained some of their most heartfelt and exciting tunes according to BBC6 and BBC2 music presenter Mark Radcliffe, so impressed Radcliffe added Tarras version of ‘New York Trader’ as one of the folk songs you have to hear before you die to his BBC website.The long Standing line up will include well known north east musician and now actor Ben Murray, son of Phil Murray (Mighty Doonans, Jack the Lad, Hedgehog pie) Ben has spent the last several years gracing the National Theatre as ‘songman’ in the brilliant Warhorse. Other original members include the sublime Louise Peacock on violin who spent some of the last decade touring with Brian Ferry and Roxy Music also co-founder member Rob Armstrong on cittern and Bouzouki. Well known northern songsmith Rory Connor who’s debut solo album ‘Falling from trees’ gained critical acclaim from the music press, will be adding the beautiful harmonies and guitar to the voice of Ben Murray as well as melting the audience with his own amazing and gritty songs Tarras have adopted with huge gratitude. They will all be backed up by the tightest drum and bass collective since John Bonham and John Paul Jones namely Liam Hiatt on drums and Mike Woodward on bass, guitar and Mandolin.
Tarras’s big sound and new material will be supported by the wonderful local singer/songwriter Devin Casson.
