About this Event

Tarot Salon presents The High Priestess: The Journey Within

Following on from last month's salon on The Chariot, we have another Cancer/ Moon card: The High Priestess. Where The Magician and The Hierophant are both performing ritual or teaching, the High Priestess sits in silent contemplation, observing us just as we observe her. Part of the Torah scroll in her arms is obscured, as is the space behind the curtain. Only initiates who are genuinely devoted will learn the lessons she has to teach. She is the keeper and guardian of the Great Mystery and sacred wisdom.

The High Priestess embodies the ancient maxim of Know Thyself. She is both student and teacher. The curtain covered in pomegranates and palms references myths of goddesses that have traversed The Underworld, such as Persephone and Inanna/ Ishtar. The horned diadem on her head and crescent moon at her feet link her to the Triple Goddess and Divine Feminine or Yin Energy (though in a different way to The Empress, which is the Venus card). Her robe becomes waves, echoing the waters she protects. It is from this source that the water flows throughout the rest of the cards in the Major Arcana.

This salon is extra special as it's also our one year anniversary! We'll be having some food and (non alcoholic) drinks in the lecture room afterwards to celebrate. As always, all levels welcome!

Wear your finest blue/silver/ moon and stars motifs to mark the occasion!

Ticket price: Sliding Scale $7 - $10 (in-person event only)

Presenter Bios:

Jenny Ruiz, a lifelong witch, was first drawn to tarot at the age of 8, and grew up reading for friends and family. The name Burning Times has been with her since the age of 19, and she chose it because it's a reminder that there will always be outside forces who are hostile to what we do; to femmes, to seekers, and to anyone considered Other. Though she has taken breaks from social media, she still does events and reads for private clients. One of her greatest joys in life is helping others connect to their own intuition and inner guidance.

Deborah Netburn has been turning to tarot for wisdom and guidance in her own life for over two decades. Largely self-taught, she is excited to gather and learn with other tarot enthusiasts in the LA area who share her love and reverence for the deep symbolic language of the cards.Deborah has had a lifelong fascination with humanity's rich variety of religious and spiritual practices and currently writes about faith, spirituality and joy for the Los Angeles Times.
