Tarot Foundations: The Language of Symbolism

Tarot is often approached as a system of meanings to memorize, yet its true depth lies in its symbolic language which is more easily accessed through visualization and imagination. The images of the cards speak through color, number, posture, landscape, and elemental forces, each detail offering a layer of interpretation that can transform a simple reading into a rich, intuitive, and even healing dialogue.
In this class, we will explore the symbolic foundations that underlie the minor arcana of a tarot deck. Together we will examine how recurring patterns within numbers, elemental qualities, and visual motif create meaning across the cards in each of the different suits. Rather than focusing on memorizing individual definitions, this approach teaches you how to read the imagery itself, allowing the cards to unfold more organically in your interpretations. If you practice, you can even use these skills to read a simple deck of playing cards!
Through guided discussion and partnered practice readings, participants will begin to see how tarot functions as a visual language that can be approached both analytically and intuitively. Students will learn how to recognize patterns, interpret visual details within the cards, and understand how symbolism and numerology shape the narrative of a spread.
This class is suitable for both beginners and experienced readers.
Those new to tarot will gain a clear framework for understanding the cards, while more advanced practitioners will deepen their relationship with the symbolic structure that gives tarot its enduring power.
