There are six races. Five Ferrets per race and the winners of the first five races are entered in the sixth race – the finale!Each Ferret can be named by anyone willing to pay $25.
We hope to attract 6 sponsors – one for each race - with the highest bidder being the Sponsor of the Final Race 6. As a guide, the highest Sponsor offering in years past was $1000, with most around half that amount. The lowest successful bidder is assigned Race #1, then the next highest Race #2, et cetera……
The successful Race Sponsors receive the following:
1. The ability to distribute Marketing material before the races begin – each Sponsor is to provide the people resources to distribute this material – races begin at 5:30pm;
2. Can erect signage of not more than 1500mm x 1500mm on a wall inside of the Sports Club – the races are held in the dining area of the Club – each Sponsor is to provide the people resources to erect such signage, under advice from the Taralga Sports Club management, and remove that signage at the closure of the Races (usually 8:30pm);
3. Can choose a name for one ferret that is placed in their sponsored race;
4. Provide a name for the specific Race they are sponsoring – e.g.: the (Your Company name) Cup Race, or, (your family’s property) Cup Race;
5. Provide text about the Sponsor for the Auctioneer to read as the ferrets for that Sponsor’s race are being prepared – maximum 100 words.;
As for the gathered throng, each ferret is auctioned-off before the race – e.g.: five auction events before each race. Bidding is carried out by a professional auctioneer. Each successful bidder pays cash to the Treasurer before the race begins. The person who ‘bought’ the winning ferret of each race receives half of the total pot of all five bids in that specific race – therefore there is a 1:5 chance of being a winner. The lineman’s call on the winning ferret is final and no discussion is entered into on that ‘call’. It is common for a race winner to pocket $400. The remaining half is retained by the CMRI Committee and is sent to the HQ as part of the fund raising efforts for the calendar year.
