Chamber Obscura return to Paris Cat to perform tango and flamenco works that showcase the depth, virtuosity and expression of both tango and flamenco styles.Argentinian tango was originally written for the dance of the same name. Astor Piazzolla revolutionised the style, incorporating jazz and classical elements and writing purely instrumental tango compositions. Chamber Obscura will perform works by Astor Piazzolla, Lalo Schifrin and original tangos by multi-instrumentalist and composer Phil Mcleod.
Flamenco, whilst originating in Spain, shares similarities with Argentinian tango in its dance-driven rhythms and melting pot of musical influences. Chamber Obscura are thrilled to present original flamenco works by guitarist Kieran Ray. With guest percussionist Adrian van Nunen, Chamber Obscura will perform a range of palos that capture the diversity and virtuosity of the flamenco tradition.
Coined the “Spanish tinge” by Jelly Roll Morton, Spanish music has influenced a myriad of musical styles. Chamber Obscura will perform Afro-Cuban jazz works that highlight the influence of Spanish music and combine classical skill with virtuosic improvisation.
Join Chamber Obscura for a celebration of tango and flamenco music with some of Melbourne’s great local artists.
