2025 TBAS Auction rules
The Tampa Bay Aquarium Society Thanks you in advance for your understanding
And support of this endeavor
1. All participants in the auction are required to be registered to buy and/or sell. The auction is open to the public and anyone is allowed to purchase or sell fish. This auction will be a FISH,SHRIMP AND SNAILS ONLY auction, donated dry goods will be auctioned by and for the club via silent auction. Limit of 30 total bags. NO MORE THAN 5 bags of a species.
2. The Auction split will be 70% -30% for TBAS after a $1 per bag fee is subtracted.
3. Doors open at 9 Am and Registration will be between 9 AM – 10:00 AM. The auction will begin at 10 AM. Items brought in after 11 AM will be considered a donation to the club. Guest may register at the door the day of the event. Please fill out the Auction list before you arrive. A guest is anyone who is not a current TBAS member. This will allow for quick check in on auction day. We will need your Name, Address,Phone # and ID. Please remember all fish brought in after 11 Am will be considered a donation to the TBAS.
4. Items on the Silent Auction table will be sold to the highest bidder at the stated end time of each auction. Bid increments will be $1 and starting prices will be determined by the auction committee.
5. Every seller will have to label their bags before bring them to the auction. If you are a current TBAS member you will need to use your member number on your bag(s) along with the sequential number of your bags EXAMPLE : 29-1,29-2,29-3,29-4 etc. All sellers ,member and nonmember, please number your bags, listyour bags on the downloadable Auction sheet (found on the TBAS FB page under the files drop down)and nonmembers when you get a seller number at the door , make sure to put it on all your bags in front of the bag number. (Sharpies will be available at the door for your use.) Seller is responsible for proper bagging of their fish. NO ZIPLOCK or like bags. There are always leaking bags that can damage labels. BAGS WITH LABELS RUINED BY WATER DAMAGE OR ILLEGIBLE WILL BE SOLD AS A DONATION. USE PERMANENT MARKER OR WATER PROOF LABELS. (Videos with helpful ways to properly bag fish are listed on the club FB page.
6. It is also required that each seller label their bag with information describing the fish in the bag to help market the fish. Species name, common name, number of fish (NO MORE THAN 7 per BAG), PAIR, TRIO, REVERSE TRIO, JUVENILE or ADULT all assist the auctioneer describe (sell) your fish.
7. NO MORE THAN 5 bags of a species. Variations of color, finnage and size will be left up to the discretion of the president and auction chair. This is for your benefit and the clubs. Overwhelming numbers of bags of a given species results in low prices and takes up valuable time from the auction benefiting neither the seller nor the club.
8. The Auction Committee of TBAS will determine the order in which the fish will be auctioned. All decisions by this committee are final. If you wish to have a bag pushed up, a $1 CASH FEE will be collected and the selected bag moved forward to be auctioned ASAP.
9. Once the items are handed over to TBAS they become the property of the club and cannot be withdrawn from the auction.
10. You may check out of the auction whenever you wish or at the end of the auction. No payments will be made to sellers at the auction. Your check will be mailed to within 30 days. You will get a print out of your items sold with your mailed check.
11. All items purchased must be paid for before the buyer leaves. Payments may be made via cash, check, credit card or Paypal.
