TAMISTAD READING SESSIONS 26 Lidija Dimkovska I Melisa Slipac I KYO:DUO

23/05 //\ 18:00 //\
Lidija Dimkovska hosted by Melisa Slipac
Live Act:

Lidija Dimkovska (North Macedonia/Slovenia) is an author, poet, editor and translator. She has published seven poetry collections, four novels for adults, one novel for children and young adults, an American diary and one short story collection, and has edited four anthologies. Her books have been translated into seventeen languages. She has won a number of prizes, including the Stale Popov award, the European Union Prize for Literature, the Štefica Cvek Award for feminist literature and many others. Her latest novel Personal Identity Number received the Novel of the Year Award in North Macedonia, while Dimkovska was named Author of the Year at the 2024 Skopje Book Fair.

Melisa Slipac was born in 1978 in Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina. She holds an MA in English, Spanish, Bosnian, Croatian and Serbian language and literature, and a PhD in Slavic Studies from the University of Vienna. Her first book of poetry Ples između zidova (Dancing among the Walls) (2007), was awarded the Petar Kočić literary prize for poets from the former Yugoslavia living in German-speaking countries. She also published a bilingual collection of poetry Troglavi svijet/Dreikopfwelt (Three headed World) with two other female authors (2017). For more than 20 years she has organised literary readings and has been active in arts and culture. She lives in Vienna and works as a language teacher and trainer.

KYO:DUO features Saw Thet Tun Oo (violin, FX) and Clemens Rofner (bass, FX). In this collaboration, their individual musical backgrounds merge into a singular sound: minimalist, groove-based jazz with elements of contemporary classical music and traditional sounds from Myanmar.
The duo is rooted in a long-standing friendship between Saw Thet Tun Oo and Clemens Rofner, finding its first musical expression in this joint project. Their original chamber-music compositions navigate the spaces between jazz, global music and the traditional sounds of the Karen minority, reflecting the diverse, culturally shaped life experiences of both musicians.
Stripped down to just violin and bass, KYO:DUO promise a rare and unique sonic experience.

The reading will be held in English.

Supported by Bundesministerium für Wohnen, Kunst, Kultur, Medien und Sport, Stadt Wien, Bezirk Margareten, Bezirk Josefstadt, Bezirk Neubau, Photo Cluster, ÖH and Hotel Korotan.
