TAMISTAD READING SESSIONS 26 Faruk Šehić I Maša Dabić I Elvedin Klačar

23/04 //\ 19:30 //\
hosted by Maša Dabić
Installation

Faruk Šehić was born in Bihać, the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. In 1992, when the war in Bosnia broke out, he dropped out of the School of Veterinary Medicine in Zagreb to join the army of Bosnia and Herzegovina as a company commander. After the war he studied literature and started writing. His books include a fragmentary novel Under Pressure (Pod pritiskom, 2004), the novel Quiet Flows the Una (Knjiga o Uni, 2011), the collection of poetry titled My Rivers (Moje rijeke, 2014), the collection of short prose Clockwork Stories (Priče sa satnim mehanizmom, 2018) and his latest novel Cinnamon Letters, Diamond Creatures (Cimetna pisma, dijamantna stvorenja, 2024).
Four of his books are available in German translation: the bilingual poetry collection Abzeichen aus Fleisch (Orden od mesa, 2011; tr: Hana Stojić), the short story collection Uhrwerkgeschichten (Priče sa satnim mehanizmom, 2020; tr: Elvira Veselinović), the poetry collection Meine Flüsse (Moje rijeke, 2024; tr: Rebekka Zeinzinger), and the novel Von der Una (Knjiga o Uni, 2025; tr: Elvira Veselinović).
He has received numerous prizes for his work, including the Zoro Verlag Prize, the Meša Selimović Prize for the best novel published in Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Croatia in 2011 and the EU Prize for Literature in 2013. Šehić lives in Sarajevo and works as a columnist and journalist.

Maša Dabić was born in Sarajevo. She studied Translation and Interpreting and earned her PhD at the University of Vienna, where she teaches translation and interpreting with a focus on Russian. She translates literature, theatre plays, and poetry—primarily from the Balkan region—into German and collaborates with cultural and theatre institutions. Her first literary translation was Barbi Marković’s Ausgehen (Suhrkamp, 2009). Most recently, she translated Tanja Šljivar’s novel Nationaltheater (Suhrkamp, 2026). In 2017 she published her first novel, Reibungsverluste (edition atelier), which addresses the practice of interpreting in psychotherapy.

Elvedin Klačar was born in Rudo (Bosnia and Hercegovina) in 1976. He holds a degree in performance sculpture from the Academy of fine arts in Vienna, Austria, and has studied at École supérieure des beaux-arts de Marseille.
Klačar creates spaces which offer possibilities of confrontation. His installations are mostly performative and engage visitors in communication. The intensifying global relations addressed in his work force us to act or react and to rethink the conditions of space which are mostly manipulated and no longer pure or pristine. The artist hints at the fact that mere existence is not a given but needs attention in order to keep up with progress. His in-situ works often surprise viewers through their ironic approach to reality.

The reading will be held in English.

Supported by Bundesministerium für Wohnen, Kunst, Kultur, Medien und Sport, Stadt Wien, Bezirk Margareten, Bezirk Josefstadt, Bezirk Neubau, Photo Cluster, ÖH and Hotel Korotan.
