Adam Bruce Thomson (1885-1976) was one of the most quietly impactful Scottish artists of his generation. A long-serving tutor at Edinburgh College of Art, he worked across an impressive range of media, mastering printmaking techniques, drawing in pastels, and painting in oils and watercolours. Thomson exhibited widely and was well-respected, yet his artistic legacy is largely unexplored. In a welcome return, Dr Scott looks afresh at Thomson’s fascinating life and career.Helen C. Scott
Helen is Curator of Fine Art at the City Art Centre in Edinburgh. She previously worked for the Wilhelmina Barns-Graham Trust, having studied Art History at the University of St Andrews. Past exhibitions include retrospectives on William Gillies, Edwin G. Lucas, Charles Mackie and Mary Cameron. Dr Scott’s current project, Adam Bruce Thomson: The Quiet Path, showcases over 100 artworks. The accompanying monograph is published by Sansom & Company.
All lectures take place at The Smith, at 40 Albert Place, Stirling, on Wednesdays at 2pm (doors open 1:45pm)
