Talkin' Jazz with Fred Kasten: In Concert is a captivating blend of interesting talk and great music featuring top jazz artists in New Orleans, hosted monthly by award-winning radio producer and interviewer Fred Kasten. This event will be a mix of interview and live performance.
Fred Kasten is an independent contributing radio producer/host at WWNO. After working at WWNO for over 20 years as an on-air talent, producer, and program director, Fred retired from full-time work in October of 2007. Fred is a native of Mobile, Alabama, a graduate of the University of Alabama, and a long-time resident of New Orleans. In addition to his work at WWNO, Fred develops independent audio projects from a home studio, producing radio features, commercials, and podcasts. Fred also does marketing and media consulting for the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra.
Gregory Agid is a first-class jazz clarinetist, saxophonist, and music educator who has played on some of the world’s largest, most prestigious stages as a member of mega-star Michael Buble’s band, and who performs closer to home with Delfeayo Marsalis’ Uptown Jazz Orchestra and his own stellar Gregory Agid Quartet.
Agid was born in Texas and raised in Hawaii and then in New Orleans, where he attended the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts alongside classmates like Trombone Shorty and Jonathan Batiste. He earned degrees at Loyola University of New Orleans and the University of New Orleans and was an early participant in the star-making Louis Armstrong Jazz Camp. Along the way, he was taught by legendary modern jazz clarinetist Alvin Batiste, Kidd Jordan, Ellis Marsalis, and Clyde Kerr. From them, Agid acquired discipline, leadership, a sensibility for modern jazz, and a dedication to jazz education and mentorship. Alongside drummer Darrian Douglas, Agid is the co-founder of Second Line Arts Collective, a non-profit organization dedicated to cultivating the artistic and entrepreneurial growth of aspiring creatives through music-based activities for both teens and smaller kids.
