The shoegaze revival of the 2010s slowly created a melting pot where bands could mix and match the style with other subgenres, resulting in the ideas laid out in Skymender's J Robbins-produced debut LP, If and Only. The five-piece, as Karol Kaminski from IDIOTEQ writes, "while resonating with the undulating waves of shoegaze... crafts an audio-scape that draws inspirations from post-punk's grit, post-rock's expansiveness, emo's emotive fervor, and dream pop's ethereal embrace." With multiple guitars and vocals, Skymender aims to immerse the audience into their heady dreamscape.
