Recognise, respond to and reduce the impact of anger in your family
About this Event

Do you need to know how to respond, with confidence, when your child gets angry?
Are you struggling to help your child to manage their emotions?
Perhaps you are worried about your whole family communicating through anger?

Anger related behaviours such as aggression are known to be an area of difficulty for children with ASD and/or ADHD.

Parents struggle to respond with confidence, and often report to us that their child’s neurodiversity ‘blurs the boundaries’ of what is acceptable.

We also know that many parents worry that siblings are learning to communicate in anger, like their siblings with ASD or ADHD, and that parents are worried about the long term affect on all their children and the family as a whole.

Based on our CAN Parent accredited Anger: Escaping the Trap course, we have developed this popular workshop that is more than anger management strategies, because we want anyone who attends to leave understanding what is happening for their child and what they can do about it.

Run by highly experienced facilitators, counsellors and parenting practitioners, this online workshop will help parents to understand:

  • The difference between healthy & unhealthy anger.
  • The pattern that anger often takes and how to spot the non-verbal signs early.
  • Their own and their children's triggers.
  • Techniques that reduce escalation of angry and aggressive behaviour and when to use them.
  • How to respond safely to a child in meltdown, keeping themselves, their child and siblings safe.
  • Where to access further help and support.

Previous attendees have said:

“Tackled some complex areas really well. Extremely helpful visuals, full of information to use in the real world. Can definitely use some of the concepts immediately.”

The workshop will take place via Zoom and will incorporate a Q&A session.

This workshop is provided free to parents by Herts County Council and it is open to all parents and carers of children aged 2-25 years old with suspected or diagnosed Autistic Spectrum Disorder and/or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder who are living in Hertfordshire.
