Talking About Feelings
This training session is designed to support foster carers in helping children understand, recognise, and express their emotions in a safe and healthy way.
Many children find it difficult to talk about how they feel, particularly those who have experienced early adversity or developmental trauma. This session will explore why emotional awareness is so important for children’s wellbeing and behaviour, and how carers can play a key role in supporting this development.
During the session, we will explore:
- What emotions are and how they develop
- Why it is important for children to be able to recognise and name their feelings
- Why children who have experienced developmental trauma may find emotional understanding particularly challenging
- Practical, trauma-informed strategies carers can use to help children recognise, name, and express their emotions safely
