In 1942 he was appointed ‘Official War Poster Artist’ and went on to publish over 100 poster designs. His technique adhered to the philosophy of ‘maximum meaning, minimum means’ and produced powerful, memorable and distinctive work. So ground-breaking was his approach, some of his posters were thought too controversial to publish.
