We’re thrilled to announce that MK Lightning Captain, our very own #15, James Griffin, will be honoured with a testimonial game on 26th April 2025! James, a 31-year-old from Oxford, began his hockey journey with Swindon and joined MK Lightning in 2015. Now, after a decade of commitment, passion, and leaving his heart on the ice, he reaches this well-deserved Testimonial season.
A former England U18 and U20 player, James joined us from the Elite League’s Coventry Blaze and quickly became a cornerstone of our team. He’s played for MKL under coaches: Pete Russell, Doug McKay, Lewis Clifford, and Tim Wallace, adapting and excelling every season.
James holds a unique place in the clubs history as the only player from the current roster, to have played 10 consecutive seasons for MK, which includes, our two seasons competing in the Elite League.
He is known for his electrifying presence on the ice, from delivering huge hits to his smooth, skillful skating and unforgettable coast-to-coast goals. James’ leadership is second to none, currently flourishing in his role as Captain and having proudly worn the “A” as Alternate Captain since the 2019 season.
Winning last season's Coach's Player of the Year, James recorded 20 points in 42 games, scoring a personal record of 11 goals and 9 assists for MK. His contributions on both ends of the ice were instrumental in driving the team’s performance throughout the season.
When signing James, Tim Wallace said “Griff is one of the best overall defenceman in the league. He hits like a truck and plays hard every night. He is a leader and a huge part of our club. I expect big things from him this year and we are lucky to have him in Milton Keynes.”
With 420 Regular Season and Play Off games in a Lightning jersey, and currently ranking at no8 for all time games played for the club, James has become a true embodiment of MKL spirit. It’s an honour to celebrate his incredible contributions and loyalty to the club with this testimonial.
