Here is an abstract for the talk
In the winter of 1888/9, William Henry Pickering used a 13” Clark Refractor to conduct observations from Mount Wilson, California. After a year, he declared it an excellent site for an observatory. Over the next 50 years, Mount Wilson became a leading centre for sidereal and solar astronomy, and a starting point for modern cosmology. This presentation follows the founding and growth of the observatory, the people who built and worked there, and the discoveries made.
