About this Event

Just What Is A Productivity Commission, And Does Penang Need One?
Over the last two decades, governments in an increasing number of countries have created agencies to act as independent, statutory think tanks designed to foster robust economic debate and future thinking, especially in regards to productivity and related issues. The very first of these was the Australian federal government's Productivity Commission, and the model has since been followed by similar bodies across Europe and a number of other countries.
Productivity Commissions have also become popular in a number of state governments, especially in federal systems.
What is a Productivity Commission? What role can it fill in a modern society, especially at the state level? How does it work, and what results do they achieve? What lessons can Penang learn as it seeks to improve its own productivity and competitiveness?
