Join us as we bring this old Welsh tradition back to life on the streets of Bronllys and Talgarth. The Mari Lwyd (a decorated horse skull) traditionally visits homes and pubs around new year. Our event will begin with a procession and end by raising a glass in the pubs of Talgarth.
Here's the plan...
17:00 - Everyone who would like to join the parade meets outside St Mary's Church in Bronllys
17:10 - Procession starts, chanting the first verse of the traditional song as we walk
17:30 - Arrive at Bronllys castle to hear about the tradition. (There may even be a glass of spiced wine available!)
18:00 - Arrive at Talgarth. The Castle Hotel is putting on a special welcome for us, where we will engage in traditional 'pwnco' singing, then on to the Bridge End for anyone who wishes to carry on the festivities.
Follow the procession, enjoy the singing and witness this haunting tradition take over town!
*Everyone taking part in the parade does so at their own risk. Event organisers assume no responsibility for anyone attending the event and will not be held responsible for any accident, injury or loss occurring as a result of attending, however caused
