Usada is delighted to host Satya Cipta, an up-and-coming Balinese artist, whose work has adorned our Usada Shala since 2017. Satya has transformed drawing, traditionally an art of story-telling, into a means of psychological expression. The personal experiences reflected in her works offer insights into the role of women in Balinese society. Satya will present us her art – her creations illustrate the diversity and scope of her talents, and position her as an influential 21st century Indonesian artist.
The presentation will be followed by an interactive discussion, moderated by multilingual author, lecturer, and specialist in Balinese culture, Jean Couteau. (This event will be videorecorded).
About Satya Cipta
Satya Cipta is a Balinese artist, director and singer born in Lombok. She gained a B.A. degree from the Arts Institute of Jakarta (IKJ) in 2010, majoring in theater. Satya began painting in her childhood - her works have achieved recognition and received critical acclaim from numerous art critics, galleries, curators, collectors and media, both in Indonesia and abroad.
In addition to pursuing her career in the visual arts, Satya Cipta has worked professionally as the lead singer for a number of operas (Gayatri, Gitarja, Tri Hita Karana and Khan Cie Wei). As a singer for the Indonesian National Orchestra (INO), Satya has performed in many prestigious concert halls and festivals, in Indonesia and Europe, such as Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, the Amare Theater in the Hague and the Music Meeting Festival in Nijmegen. She recently released her own single across all digital platforms. In addition, Satya is known as an art and show director for theater, film and Lokaswara Festivals.
