About this Event
Join youth climate justice organizer Keanu Arpels-Josiah as he reflects on his recent return from The First International Conference on Transitioning Away From Fossil Fuels in Santa Marta, Colombia, and what it means for how our movements here in New York City move forward.
The conference was hosted in late April in Santa Marta, Colombia, as a space for committed governments, civil society, youth, and indigenous leaders to come together and chart a future beyond fossil fuels. For civil society, the clear thread was the implication of the broader systems of imperialism, patriarchy, and extractivism, whose end is necessary for such a transition away from fossil fuels to be possible — and whose biggest enforcer remains to be the United States.
Join Keanu Arpels-Josiah, 350 NYC, Third Act NYC, Sane Energy Project, Sunrise Movement NYC, Fridays For Future NYC, and The New York Society for Ethical Culture as he reflects on these very takeaways and the path forward for our movements.
