About this Event

TAKAAT (pronounced tuh-cot), meaning “noise” in the Tuareg language Tamashek, is the trio of Ahmoudou Madassane, Mikey Coltun, and Souleymane Ibrahim, also known as the rhythm section of Mdou Moctar. TAKAAT is sonic chaos, improvisation, freedom of exploration, and the punk styles of bands such as Fugazi and Unwound, all mixed together with the guitar music from the Sahel.

TAKAAT started during soundchecks while on the road with Mdou Moctar when the trio indulged their shared love for amps cranked to 11 and the sound of blown out speakers. Towards the end of 2023, the three started writing music together, inspired by their shared experiences with the sounds and energy of Hausa bar bands, gritty soukous, and 2000s post-punk. The music of TAKAAT is intense, dark, and energetic. Deeply inspired by the DIY ethos of punk, Ahmoudou, Mikey, and Souleymane capture that thrill of the new and the ecstasy of togetherness in these heavy rockers. TAKAAT follows in the spirit of the independent music culture that birthed hardcore basement shows, bedroom tape labels, and generator-powered pick-up wedding bands.

Carl Shane is the guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter behind Kal Marks, a band known for its raw intensity, guttural vocals, and emotionally direct songwriting. After a major lineup change and a period of uncertainty, Shane reformed the group with new members and created My Name Is Hell—a record that marks a bold, dynamic shift in the band's sound. Now based in Providence, he continues to write music that reflects both personal struggle and broader social anxieties, with a blend of heaviness, honesty, and unexpected beauty. Now Carl has started a new project Wild Birds Unlimited. It delves into more atmospheric terrain. The first release "The Fossils Are On Fire, And That's Too Bad For You" was self released this February as a fundraising project for a grander more ambitious follow up. The collection is quite abstract and hints at the full songs to come.

Doors are at 7pm and music will begin at 730! Seating is first come first served!

Thanks to support from Savings Bank of Walpole, this show has an Access For All option which lets you name your price (you can't buy multiples of this option at the same time, so to buy more than one ticket, it is necessary to do each additional ticket in a different transaction).
