Marking its 50th anniversary this season, and still with one original member, cellist András Fejér (who retires from the group after this season), the Takács Quartet, our perennial favourites in concert, return to Vancouver. Tagged as one of the 10 greatest string quartets of the past 100 years by BBC Music Magazine, this internationally celebrated group still brings to life the classic Hungarian tradition of string playing, rhythmically dynamic and full toned. “Classical music doesn’t get much more life-enhancing than this.” (The Guardian) “Rich contrasts: a Wigmore Hall evening of dazzling versatility…” (Seen and Heard International). Their magnificent recordings of Beethoven's fabulous cycle of 16 string quartets made over 20 years ago became the benchmark for a generation. Join us to hear how their interpretation of this music has changed since then in this all-Beethoven programme.
Programme:
Beethoven: String Quartet in G Major, Opus 18 No. 2
Beethoven: String Quartet No. 10 in E-flat Major, Opus 74 “Harp”
